Abigail loves her toy poodle, Petey. She calls him her “little man.”
Abigail always wanted a dog, but her long hours at the office kept her from getting one. Suddenly, her situation had changed. Now she was working from home, and for months on end she spent most of her time alone.
Abigail was getting lonely. She had started scrolling through the photos on her local pet shelter’s website. She was almost ready to make a decision. The moment she laid eyes on Petey it was love at first sight.
The next morning Petey was so happy to leave the shelter with Abigail. He had spent a long time waiting for his new home. Now he was ready to celebrate!
She was pleasantly surprised at how energetic and playful Petey was, even for an older dog. When she adopted him the shelter explained that toy poodles are special dogs. They are intelligent, high-energy, and very social. They need lots of exercise and attention.
While Abigail was working at home it was nice to have Petey around. To keep her company, and to keep her moving. She was always playing with him, and getting dragged along for long walks. (Abigail even lost a little weight from getting so much exercise!)
After several months she got called back to work, and back to her long office hours. Fortunately she lived close to work, so it was no problem to pop back to see Petey every few hours.
When she worked at home she and Petey had the whole day to spend together. There was time for the long walks he needed to burn off his excess energy. Now, Petey was alone. He was not reacting well.
Everything had been perfect before. Now, Petey was chewing on things around the house and soiling the carpets. He wasn’t the same lovable dog who had come along and brightened up her life.
Abigail called the shelter to see if they could help. She learned that toy poodles can be very anxious and difficult if they don’t get to exercise or socialize.
But with work during the day and being tired at night, she didn’t have the time or energy to entertain Petey like she had before.
What was she going to do? She loved Petey, but she needed her job.
The next day at work her boss, Mr. Johnson, noticed that Abigail was looking kind of sad. He asked if she was okay. After explaining how she was having trouble with Petey, Mr. Johnson began to smile.
Abigail thought that was an odd reaction to such a sad story, but Mr. Johnson started to speak. He told her about his pair of poodles at home, so he understood exactly what she was dealing with.
He explained how it was a shock for a poodle to suddenly be alone like that, especially for a shelter dog.
Mr. Johnson raised his finger up in a motion for her to wait, then walked back into his office and picked up the phone.
Minutes later he returned, reached over the desk, and placed an index card in front of Abigail. On the card was scribbled ‘CBD’.
Mrs. Johnson’s secret weapon when their pups were acting up. The dogs are happy for a tasty treat, and their humans enjoy more relaxed poodles.
Mr. Johnson had been talking to his wife. She suggested that Petey be invited to visit Abigail at the office whenever he wanted. Mr. Johnson agreed.
Abigail couldn’t wait to tell Petey the news! She rushed home after work and bolted through the door. Petey was waiting for her, jumping up and down. His tail wagging so fast it was a blur.
Looking down, Abigail noticed that Petey had left her a ‘gift’ on the carpet by the door. He stood beside her and watched as she cleaned up his mess. Thanks, Petey.
Washing her hands, she grabbed Petey’s leash and they walked to the dog park. Abigail was happy to see him running around like a puppy and having fun again. She missed these times. She was also happy to know he would be spending more time with her at work.
While Petey ran around free inside the dog park, Abigail pulled out her phone and learned more about CBD dog treats. She remembered seeing a box of these treats at the shelter, but she did not realize what they were.
She scrolled through the product reviews for the most popular products. Over and over she heard stories of pets suffering from anxiety, and how they found relief just by enjoying this special snack. Some of the products had hundreds of positive reviews!
One lady said her dog loves the tasty treats, and there’s no more anxiety when he’s riding in the car. Another said that her older dog experienced less joint stiffness, and now he could move around better.
Abigail had not even thought of this! Petey was starting to get older. She would have to make sure he kept feeling well both physically and mentally. It was comforting to learn there was a simple solution by giving him CBD dog treats, and one that Petey would love.
Now we reach the happy ending to the story!
The next day Petey stayed home alone until lunchtime. After lunch, Abigail walked him to her office. He stayed with her a few hours until her next break, when he went back home until she came back that afternoon.
This was the schedule most days. There were occasional ‘accidents’ while he was home alone, Petey was getting better. He definitely seemed much happier.
The morning after the CBD dog treats arrived she gave one to Petey before she left for work. He gobbled it down like a rare steak.
When she came home for lunch Petey was waiting for her like always, but there were no special ‘gifts’. He was the same good boy she loved so much, just with less of his jittery anxiety.
Abigail imagined Petey felt better, and she felt better because of this.
